Grasbrook: Green City by the Water
The new Grasbrook district presents a distinctive chance to reconsider and integrate urban development and innovation processes, encompassing all relevant aspects. The harbor area, which is currently almost entirely sealed, will undergo a transformation into a green district in the future. This will be achieved through the implementation of innovative approaches, including the Sponge City principle. Over the next few years, approximately 3,000 apartments will be constructed across the entire area, with a combination of socially subsidized and privately financed options for cooperatives and building consortiums. The locations of the future residential blocks are already clearly visible today. A six-hectare park is also being created. The new district offers the potential for 16,000 jobs across a range of sectors, including co-working and space for start-ups, flexible and digital office concepts, research and development, and urban production.
A modern metropolis needs innovative ideas and sustainable solutions. HafenCity Hamburg GmbH (HCH) has been providing impetus for this for more than two decades. The company’s expertise covers the entire process of planning, negotiating and implementing urban development. This not only benefits HafenCity, Europe's largest inner-city waterfront development project, but also the three other major projects for which HCH and its group companies are responsible: Grasbrook, Billebogen and Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld.
